The Protean Influence of Pregnancy on Idiopathic Epilepsy."'

چکیده
The search for accurate clinical records of epilepsy in its relation to and modification by pregnancy and the puerperal state, with the remote effects of childbearing upon the mother's psychosis, is a difficult matter. For various reasons, especially the desire for maternity, the epileptic mother withholds imparting her true condition, and the severity, nature and frequency of her attacks. So likewise do the parents and relatives of' the patient, and when a child is born, it too will they stealthily shield from any existing stigmata, as a mental enfeeblement born of its allied progenitor. I have had occasion to note this in another place:jSimilar obstacles are again encountered when an endeavor is made to trace the cause of the epilepsy and from this inexact knowledge many cases are still classed as idiopathic epilepsy, which, therefore, remains l0gitimate yet, perhaps, inexpedient scientific nomenclature, but we are not justified in changing the name idiopathic until a cause is found . Pregnancy may, it seems, ultimately produce epilepsy; ji1·st, by causing puerperal convulsions, and second, by in·itation or exhaustion. In many cases, when a frank history is obtained, the

Immunological Correlates of Adult Onset Idiopathic Generalized Tonic-clonic Epilepsy before and after Sodium Valproate Treatment
Objective: To investigate possible immunological humoral correlates in newly diagnosed adult-onset generalized tonic-clonic epilepsy among Iranian patients before and after sodium valproate treatment. Patients and Methods: 72 adult patients with newly diagnosed idiopathic generalized tonic-clonic epilepsy were recruited. Serum antinuclear antibodies (ANA), anti-cardiolipin antibodies (aCL), a...
متن کاملEstimating the Optimal Dosage of Sodium Valproate in Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy with Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System
Introduction: Epilepsy is a clinical syndrome in which seizures have a tendency to recur. Sodium valproate is the most effective drug in the treatment of all types of generalized seizures. Finding the optimal dosage (the lowest effective dose) of sodium valproate is a real challenge to all neurologists. In this study, a new approach based on Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) was pre...
متن کاملDetermination of Haptoglobin Genotype in an Iranian Population with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy
Background: Haptoglobin (Hp) is a plasma α2-sialoglycoprotein that contains alpha and beta chains. It displays in three common phenotypes, Hp1-1, Hp2-1, and Hp2-2. Proteins expressed by polymorphic genes have grossly different molecular sizes resulting in different diffusion rates in the brain. Haptoglobin expressed by the Hp2-2 genotype has lower hemoglobin-binding capacity than Hp1-1 or...

Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis in Pregnancy: A Case Report
Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis is an inflammatory disease with unknown etiology. The clinical signs and mammograms of the disease can mimic breast cancer. The present study reports a case of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis in a pregnant woman. A 26-year-old woman, who was 24 weeks pregnant, felt a mass on her left breast. Biopsy of the mass revealed no evidence of malignancy. For treatment...
